SOURCING & GROWTH / 4 MIN READ

A better supply chain
starts at the source.

Turn a product reference into a sourcing brief that makes price, quality and fulfillment decisions easier to compare.

Illustration of sourcing & growth
01

A link is useful; a brief is better

A reference link can show the shape and appearance of a product. It may not explain materials, sizing, variants or the quality you need. Start by naming the essential requirements and separating them from preferences. If similar products are acceptable, say which differences you can accept.

02

Keep product cost separate from freight

The CDG sourcing form treats the target price as product cost, excluding shipping. This makes an important distinction visible. Compare the product quotation first, then add destination shipping, packaging and other agreed costs before assessing the overall economics.

03

Include the market and the pack

The target country is not an afterthought. The product category, packed dimensions and presentation can affect route availability and cost. Include the intended destination, expected volume, packaging and logo requirements in the same brief so those discussions start together.

04

Review samples against written requirements

A sample is useful when it answers a specific question. Compare the material, finish, dimensions, function and packaging against the brief. Record differences and the agreed resolution. An attractive sample without documented requirements is difficult to use as a reference for later orders.

05

Make the first order a learning step

Before increasing volume, check how product information moves into the store, how the quote is reviewed and how the packing instruction is understood. Reconcile what was expected with what was actually prepared. That feedback improves the next brief and the next order.
